The Al Ain Distribution Company ( AADC ) provides water and electricity services to its customers in the Al Ain Municipality area and the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company ( ADDC ) supplies water and electricity to customers in the rest of the Emirate. These two sister companies are fully owned by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority ( ADWEA ).Both companies are required under condition 9 of their licence to keep separate financial accounts for their distribution and supply activities. The distribution businesses cover the ownership, operation, maintenance and construction of networks assets. The supply businesses cover meter reading, billing, customer accounts and call centre activities. The electricity distribution network is based predominantly on UK and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued a tender for the 5th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park for 900 megawatts (MW) of electricity using photovoltaic solar panels, based on the Independent Power Project (IPP) model. Welcome to Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (TRANSCO) website. TRANSCO is a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and is responsible for developing, operating and maintaining the high voltage power transmission and bulk water transmission networks within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Voltages of 33kV, 22kV (ADDC only), 11kV and 400V/230V are used. Both companies have significant areas served by overhead lines, although major towns and cities are served by underground networks. The effects of weather (such as sand storms and humidity) adversely impact on the reliability of the overhead networks which are currently below international benchmarks.
However, the reliability of the Abu Dhabi Island network is comparable to other capital cities in developed countries. In addition to rapid expansion of distribution networks to cater for load growth, both companies are implementing programmes to install remote control on their 11kV networks. These are expected to deliver significant improvements in performance and reduction of power outage times. The Bureau also works closely with the companies’ to finalise the supporting documentation for the connection and interface agreements. This includes:. identification of all the power and water connection points;. the ownership boundaries;.
the responsibility for operation, maintenance, ownership and control at all sites; and. review and approval of connection and interface agreements supporting documents.
